All components of the MSD Marine Ignition system have been extensively tested by Underwriter's Laboratory and have been certified to meet or exceed all safety standards for ignition systems as set out by the U.S. Coast Guard. Underwriter's Laboratory is famous for its thorough testing of marine electrical components. Each MSD Marine Ignition component had to meet or exceed these rigorous tests before the U.L. symbol of certification was placed on the product.
Here is a summary of some of the tests that the MSD Marine Ignition System was subjected to:
Low & High Temperature-
Ignition must function at -13° F. to 212° F
Voltage-
Entire assembly tested to withstand 500 volts
Vibration-
Must function after 24 hours on vibration table
Shock-
Struck 5000 times with a 10 g. force
Ignition Protection-
Must extinguish ignited fuel inside the distributor cap
Chemical Resistance-
Submerged 5 hours in swelling oil
Salt Spray-
Must withstand 96 hours under continuous salt spray

| Over the years, specific ignition needs have developed for automotive style engines in marine applications. One of these needs has been for a complete ignition system that is powerful enough to prevent plug fouling while idling yet tough enough to withstand the demanding requirements of the marine environment. The MSD Marine Ignition System, which consists of an MSD 6M-2 Ignition Control, Soft Touch Rev Control and Marine Distributor, is designed to meet these needs of the marine enthusiast. Whether you have a high performance jet boat, a pleasure inboard/outboard, or an all-out offshore race boat, the MSD Marine Ignition System will greatly improve the performance and driveability of your boat in many ways. |
